*Please note change of venue*

The CPRC, in association with the UK Parliament's International Development Select Committe, is holding an event on

Tuesday 8 July 2008 at 5.30 pm in the *Mall Room, The Foreign Press Association, 11 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AJ*

to mark the launch of the Chronic Poverty Report 2008-09: ‘Escaping Poverty Traps’.

The first Chronic Poverty Report published in 2004 highlighted the key processes by which many millions of people are trapped in chronic poverty. Speaking at the launch Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown MP, then Chancellor of the Exchequer said, “I want to congratulate the Chronic Poverty Research Centre. This report is a landmark report. It is a challenge to any complacency, it is a call for change and it is a demand for urgent action.”

This, the second Chronic Poverty Report 2008-09 - Escaping Poverty Traps, provides a policy response to the first and for the 320 to 443 million people trapped in chronic poverty, it presents a set of policy solutions, with an emphasis on tackling exclusion, extending social protection and building assets.

The report will be presented by a panel of speakers and the launch will be attended by representatives of bilateral and multilateral agencies, research institutions, non-governmental organisations, and representatives from developing country governments.

If you are able to attend the launch, please email chronicpovertyreport@odi.org.uk with your name and contact details. You will then receive full details of the meeting and more background on chronic poverty.

The Report will also feature earlier in the day at the ODI's Poverty Reports Day public meeting.
