Chronic Poverty Report 2008-09
Policy Briefs
The Policy Briefs listed below, which are part of the broader CPRC series, present key elements of the Chronic Poverty Report 2008-09 in a more concise format. They are intended to serve as a quick guide to some of the key policy points made in the Report, and a brief introduction to the Report.
Four Policy Briefs focus on the central policy themes from the Report – Social Protection, Growth, Gender and Social Change, and Conflict and Fragile States:
- Chronic poverty and violent conflict: ‘fragile states’ and the social compact
CPRC Policy Brief 7: Tony Addison and Tim Braunholtz-Speight - Escaping chronic poverty through economic growth
CPRC Policy Brief 8: Ursula Grant - Social protection: top priority to end chronic poverty
CPRC Policy Brief 9: James Scott - Supporting escape from chronic poverty: policies in action
CPRC Policy Brief 10: Tim Braunholtz-Speight
A further two Policy Briefs consider the Report’s other themes: Untold Stories presents life history material offering a window into the experience of being chronically poor, and of being the object of poverty policy; Policies in Action looks at brief case studies of existing attempts to implement the kind of policies recommended in the Report:
- Untold stories: the human face of poverty dynamics
CPRC Policy Brief 11: Martin Prowse - Progressive social change: women's empowerment
CPRC Policy Brief 12: Tim Braunholtz-Speight, Caroline Harper and Nicola Jones
